Other Details to Note

The Carriage House has an open floor plan. There is no door to the bedroom, which opens into the living room - though there is a screen for privacy. There are doors to the upstairs bedroom, and both bathrooms. There are 3 heating/cooling systems: 1 for the downstairs, one for the upstairs and one for the solarium. It can be a little tricky given the open floor plan getting the temp just right since hot air rises - so the upstairs may be warmer than the downstairs! The upstairs has a balcony looking down into the first floor so kids/adults need to be safe with their behavior. There is also an outside balcony that can be unlocked bu it is only for emergency use. The balcony does not meet code for regular use (the railing is too low).

The Layton Castle Carriage House was a restful spot and met our family's needs for a week-long stay! Check-in instructions were clear; the space was quite clean for a historic space - bathroom, linens, and kitchen were tidy and well-kept. The A/C was plenty strong despite the heat (it was upper 90s outside all week). The library was fun to peruse. The main floor bedroom does not have a door (it's clearly described as such), but the curtains offered sufficient privacy when needed. Our dog was welcome; Pam communicated well about coordinating times with their dog for us to run ours out in the yard. The yard was beautiful - keep an eye out around the edges for poison ivy! Some of the surrounding neighborhood felt a little rough, but the yard around the castle and carriage house was fenced and felt secure enough. We definitely plan to stay again next summer!

The carriage house at Layton Castle was absolutely gorgeous. You can tell that Pam not only cares about the guest experience, but also the history and preservation of the property. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else next time we’re in Monroe. And it is abbbsolutely haunted (by very pleasant and humorous ghosts!) if you’re into that.

To say this was an incredible place to stay is an understatement! The home was comfortable and welcoming, clean and a genuine delight to stay in. The Sun room was a peaceful place to work during the day and the bedroom and bathrooms were very easy to live in. Pam and John were delightful hosts and extremely helpful and accommodating. The castle grounds were a special place to enjoy the day and my son throughly enjoyed playing in the grass with the hosts dog. I can say with absolute confidence that you will enjoy staying at this location. Pam and John thank you so much for having us and we look forward to coming back!

From the moment we entered the wrought iron gates, we knew our stay at Layton Castle would be special. The Castle itself is both grand and eclectic -- take the historical tour if you can! The grounds are gorgeous and peaceful, with sprawling live oaks and magnolias, camellias all over, and a little cemetery dating to the early 1800s. Our accommodations in the Garden Tower and the Carriage House were perfect: spotless and comfortable, fully equipped and tastefully decorated. The Garden Tower has been beautifully renovated with thoughtful touches like the cozy kitchen banquette. The Carriage House was spacious, with a wonderful collection of books to peruse – ideal for our two adult children, each with their own bedroom and private bath. The Layton Castle app made check-in and check-out a breeze, plus it had great tips for restaurants and sightseeing in Monroe. Most important, Pam and John are lovely people -- consummate hosts and caring stewards of this historic gem!

We enjoyed our stay very much! The surrounding were beautiful and extremely inviting. Everything around is rich with historic beauty from the trees to the buildings. Pam was great with communication and advising of what to expect during our stay. We were granted great privacy and enjoyed the scenic views and tranquil surroundings. I would definitely recommend for a beautiful Monroe stay and hope to book again in the future! Thank you for a beautiful stay!

I had a great time in this amazing vintage and at the same time well renovated cottage. Pam and John are great hosts. I also find a very welcoming friendship in them. It is very close to attractions in the city and to the restaurants and to hospitals. Which is important for me since I work in the hospital and I enjoy going outside eating in the restaurants. They are very considerate in every aspect of your stay and they will help you in any way that you need help with. They know the area very well and can guide you on the things that you might like. The castle is historic and has deep roots to Monroes and LA’s beginnings. This basically where the city started. It was very exciting to stay here from this aspect since I love history and architecture. Also your door opens to a great garden with ancient trees welcomes you. It was an amazing time and whoever comes to Monroe for whatever reason I would recommend Layton castle as a great accommodation.

Pam was a great host! The carriage house we stayed in was comfortable and had unique features as it was an older building. Pam was very quick to answer any questions we had. It was on a large plot of land with many trees and flowers. We could walk around the grounds which we did. It was a very peaceful place to stay, and close to places of interest to visit and find out about the history of Monroe LA. I would highly recommend a stay there if you are in Monroe LA.

This place was absolutely magical! The grounds are so pretty and peaceful and the carriage house was very comfortable. We didn't realize we'd have so much space. My only regret is that we weren't staying longer!
